  • Search for gpedit.msc and look out for the top results to avail Local Group Policy Editor
  • Now do the following

Computer configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates

  • The user will require to double-click on the option ‘Configure Automatic Updates” on the right side
  • Checking the “Disabled” button will automatically turn off updates on Windows 10
  • Select “Apply” followed by “OK

How to disable automatic updates on Windows 10 using Registry

(an important piece of information is that the users should be alert while performing this function because if done incorrectly, it can cause permanent damage to the device)

  • Open “Start”
  • Look for regedit and click on the top results to launch the Registry Editor
  • Use the following instructions

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

  • Right-click on Windows
  • Click on “New
  • Check “Option
  • Select “Windows Update” and then “Enter
  • Again right-click on the newly created key
  • Select “New
  • Select the “Key” option
  • Name the new key as “AU
  • Press “Enter
  • Now right-click on “AU
  • Select the “New” submenu
  • Now select the “DWORD (32 bit) Value” option
  • Name the new key as “NoAutoUpdate”
  • Now press “Enter”
  • Double-click the newly created key and change its value from 0 to 1
  • Select “OK” and then restart the device
