One can utilize a choropleth map to configure shading to display relative metrics including election results or population in a predefined geographic area. A choropleth map in Splunk is a kind of map that displays information as shaded areas. That is the shaded places represent a value of a certain metric. To make a choropleth map in Splunk, one needs to follow the steps highlighted below:
Creating Choropleth Map
Import the information into Splunk: You need to import the data that you need to display on the choropleth map first. This can be achieved by uploading a CSV file or by connecting a data source.
- Create search query: After importing the data in Splunk, you should create a search query that retrieves the information you need to show on the map.
- Create a visualization: After that, create a visualization that shows the information on a map. To make a choropleth map, you need to utilize the “Geo Field Map” visualization type.
- Configure visualization: Once you’ve created the visualization, you need to configure it by choosing the data fields that you need to display, setting hues for every value range, plus customizing the map layout.
- Save the visualization: After configuring the visualization, you need to save it as a saved search or as a dashboard panel.
- Share the visualization: After that, you can share the visualization with other people by sending a link or embedding it in a dashboard.

Generating a choropleth map
Choose one of the choropleth maps by selecting the Add Chart button available in the editing toolbar. Moreover, at the editing toolbar, you either browse via the available charts or use the search option. There are three varieties of Choropleth maps: These include a world map viz.geojson.world a map of the US viz.geojson.us, & viz.choropleth.svg.
Choose the chart on your dashboard for it to be highlighted with a blue editing outline.
Although it’s optional, you can set up a new data source by adding a query to a Search window.
To select an existing search, exit the window and choose the visualization. When the Configuration panel does not appear, click the Configuration button available in the editing toolbar to bring up the Configuration panel & click “+Setup Primary Data Source” to select an existing search.
